One Dead, One Critical in Merrill Shooting

One man is dead and a second is in critical condition following a Saturday night shooting in Merrill.

Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel said his department responded at about 9:45 p.m. for reports of a domestic situation on the 200 block of East Saginaw Street (M-46) near South Parsons Street.

The man, 38-year-old John Wood, was found dead at the scene.

A second man, whose name has not been released, was transported in critical condition to a nearby hospital.

An uninjured woman was also at the scene.

The three knew each other, Federspiel said, and the department believes it to be an isolated incident.

Jonesfield Township firefighters and MMR assisted at the scene, as well as the Michigan State Police crime lab.

The investigation remains active, Federspiel said.
