Soil testing is planned on a dozen sites within Bangor Township’s Bayside Park off Bangor Road along with a survey of neighboring residents to assess their health concerns.
Chairman Ernie Krygier of the Bay County Board of Commissioners says dredged material from the Kawkawlin River and Lagoon had been placed on site before being capped.
Krygier added AKT Peerless will be involved in the soil sampling with the Bay County contributing $9,000 toward that cost.
He’s hoping the testing can begin by early fall with results back by January 1st.
The township wants to eventually transform Bayside Park into a disc golf course, but only if the state says it’s okay to move the dirt.
